Biography
Mr Kyi Toe graduated from the Medical College in Yangon, Myanmar (Burma) in 1986, where he also undertook his initial training as a general surgeon. He earned a Master’s degree in General Surgery in 1994 and subsequently held a consultant post in Yangon. In 1998, he passed the fellowship examination and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

In 2009, Mr Toe completed further fellowship examinations with the Royal College of Surgeons in General Surgery. Following the completion of his training, he was appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at Milton Keynes University Hospital in 2012, where he specialises in general, laparoscopic, and day case surgery. He has extensive experience in both elective and emergency general surgery and has performed a high volume of hernia and gallbladder procedures. His specialist expertise lies in laparoscopic surgery for inguinal, incisional, and other abdominal hernias, including complex and recurrent cases.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Toe is deeply involved in surgical education and training. He has served as a faculty trainer in laparoscopic cholecystectomy for advanced theatre nurse practitioners and has conducted courses on inguinal hernia repair under local anaesthetic for surgeons.
He has also held key roles as an educational and clinical supervisor, as well as an enhanced appraiser for junior doctors in training within the Oxford Deanery.

Since 2014, Mr Toe has served as the Lead Surgeon for Emergency Surgery at Milton Keynes University Hospital, where he has contributed significantly to improving efficiency and service delivery.

Mr Toe is a highly experienced and skilled surgeon known for providing personalised, patient-centred care. His approach ensures that treatments are carefully tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual.

He maintains a very low conversion rate from laparoscopic to open gall bladder surgery—just 2% for gallbladder procedures, compared to the national average of 5%—and boasts high day case surgery rates.

Thanks to his meticulous preoperative planning and use of preemptive local anaesthetic techniques, his patients experience minimal postoperative pain, resulting in excellent comfort levels and high satisfaction.

Mr. Kyi Toe graduated from Rangoon University Medical College, Burma, in 1986. He completed a Master’s degree in General Surgery in 1994 before moving to the UK for further advanced surgical training. In 1998, he passed the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh examination and became a Fellow. He went on to pass the Intercollegiate Examination in 2009, earning Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in General Surgery.
In 2011, Mr. Toe completed a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery at the University of Strasbourg, France. He is also a JAG-certified endoscopist, trained in upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy.
Mr. Toe holds professional memberships with several organisations, including the European Hernia Society, the British Hernia Society, and the British Association of Day Surgery.
His research interests focus on post-operative pain management—specifically "painless post-op" recovery—for a range of general and upper gastrointestinal procedures. These include laparoscopic (keyhole) gallbladder surgery, groin, ventral, and incisional hernia repairs, as well as pilonidal sinus surgery.

He is also dedicated to education and training. Mr. Toe delivers specialist courses to GPs on groin, ventral, and incisional hernia surgery. He is a faculty member for keyhole gallbladder surgery training for advanced nurse practitioners and for groin hernia repair under local anaesthesia for surgeons. As an experienced trainer and educator, he has taught and mentored numerous junior doctors, nurses, and medical students, consistently earning excellent feedback for his teaching.

Mr. Kyi Toe has an impressive academic background, having earned multiple accolades throughout his educational journey. Notably, he achieved First Prize in both the Irrawaddy Division and Hinthada Township Matriculation Exams in 1978, showcasing his dedication and excellence in academics.
